Evaluation 3

Evaluation 3: What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Presenting our complete music video which was in its final stages to our class proved very beneficial. We were able to receive feedback on what they liked about it but also what we could improve.
We asked 4 main questions:
·      What did you understand to be the narrative?
·      Do you think it fits the soul genre?
·      What age category would you say this appeals to?
·      Is there anything you would cut out or change about the video?

As a group we were very happy with the feedback we gathered from this session and we created a list of ideas that were suggested to us in regards to improvements that could be made.

It was a common suggestion among not only our class, but other people who we have shown our music video to for feedback, that we should shorten the length of the shot which involved the character working in a store and placing wooden sticks in boxes. As this was brought up a lot to us it helped us to decide that we should shorten this shot as it seemed very repetitive and we did not want it to become boring.

Also, it was suggested in this same feedback session that we should incorporate more bottles in the bottle sequence in our music video to allow it to fit to the beat. This is something we hadn’t thought to do as the beat was very fast so we didn’t think we would be able to present it on good timing. However, after hearing somebody in the class suggest it we decided to try it out and see how it looked. After making this edit, we then asked a few people which one they preferred- the previous shot with less bottles or the new sequence with more bottles, everybody we asked preferred the new one so we therefore chose to keep that one in our final music video.

Luckily we were able to make use of various platforms to collect valuable feedback. This meant that we were able to go beyond media students and ask people with no prior knowledge of what we were aiming for to provide us with some feedback. As a group we decided to take to sites such as ‘surveymonkey’ in order to make an accessible questionnaire that allowed a wide range of people to provide answers to the questions we had in mind. Alongside this, we also showed our friends and family our music video and each shared the feedback we gathered in our Whatsapp groupchat, allowing us to discuss and work upon the criticisms made.
